May, 2015

Dear Families,

Time and again, I am reminded how the students in our Catholic Schools are receiving an education that is very unique in the present day. They are experiencing school days filled with prayer and worship. They are immersed in service to others.  They are guided to live Jesus’ command to love one another. What a beautiful gift you are giving your children! Thank you for entrusting them to our schools, our teachers, our Catholic communities.

The foundation of our Catholic schools is built solidly upon faith values and academic excellence. Going forward our Stark Catholic Schools will be characterized by educational excellence earning a superior position to area alternatives through our Catholic faith values, high academic achievement, and sense of family within and among our school communities. Holy Cross Academy will be known for maximizing the talent and promise of each and every child in our schools through programming in sports, the arts, and experiences conducive to preparing students for the 21st Century

Each one of our schools: Regina Coeli/St. Joseph, St. Louis, Our Lady of Peace, St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Michael, St. Joan of Arc, St. Mary, St. Barbara and SS. Philip and James is a unique community unto itself.  Each school is a vibrant member of a parish community that boasts a strong history and tradition. Each parish is led by a dedicated pastor, associates and parish ministers. And we share a common mission: to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, to educate with high expectations, and to guide our children as they become young adults who possess the self-discipline to pursue their future goals.

What can you expect going forward? A shared, open, and ongoing dialogue about how we can collaborate to continue our schools on the path of excellence.  This newsletter will be the first of many communications; interested readers can pick up printed newsletters at their school or access them online at www.starkholycrossacademy.com, on Facebook at Holy Cross Academy: Stark County, Ohio or Twitter at HolyCrossAcademy: Ohio. We also have a Google listserv, subscribers will have newsletters sent to them via email; if you’d like to be on our email list go to our website, click on Enewsletter, under News & Events, and fill out the online submission form for eConnection. You can also expect a dedication to invite all schools to share in all the benefits that a system can offer.  A plan for improvement that includes our Catholic Identity, Academic Excellence,  Financial Viability, Communications, and Marketing/Enrollment direction and support.

Under Msgr. Gaetano’s leadership, the difficult task of gathering our schools into the system of Holy Cross Academy was initiated.   By listening to one another and collaborating together, we will continue to build strong, vibrant, Catholic schools. May God Bless all members of our Stark County Catholic Schools as we work together to realize a promising future! I am looking forward to meeting the many parents, students, teachers and staff members who comprise our Catholic schools. I invite you to contact me at jzufall@starkholycrossacademy.com.

Sincerely,

Jackie Zufall

I would like to introduce myself to you as well as, two other full time staff members of our system of schools: Suzanne Herdlicka, Director of Advancement and Kristie Cramer, Director of Marketing and Enrollment.

Jackie Zufall, President, Holy Cross Academy

I am very happy for the opportunity to begin working on my future vision for Stark Catholic Schools.  I grew up in Stark County, attending Our Lady of Peace and Central Catholic High Schools. After earning my degree in education I taught Visual Art in Alliance City Schools for ten years.  Then, with my Master’s degree in administration, became principal of St. James in Waynesburg for four years, later moving to St. Paul in North Canton where I have been principal for twenty years. My husband (Sid) and I have been married for thirty seven years. Our two boys, who are grown now, attended Regina Coeli, St. Paul, and St. Thomas Aquinas Schools.

Suzanne Herdlicka, Director of Advancement

It is a great honor for me to have been appointed the first Director of Advancement for Holy Cross Academy Catholic Schools! I have dedicated most of my career serving the Catholic Church in education, development, and fundraising. Most recently, I served nine years in New York City working for the Archdiocese of New York in the capacity as a school Principal and the Director of Development at St. Malachy’s-The Actors’ Chapel in Times Square.

I am originally a native of North Canton and an alumni of St. Paul School where my mother taught for twenty-seven years! Both of my children attended St. Paul’s while I taught first grade there for nine years after earning a Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. I also earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Community Partnerships from Kent State University while I was employed with Canton City Schools as the Director of Family, School, & Community Partnerships.

The pursuit of excellence in Catholic education has been a life-long passion! I am honored to dedicate my time, talents, and treasure to Stark County Catholic schools as our dedicated team of professionals pursue excellence and national recognition!

Kristie (Paulus) Cramer, Director of Marketing and Enrollment

It’s wonderful to return home after 5 years with George Mason University where I was Program Coordinator. While there, the team was the top collegiate debate program in the country and had the largest public speaking & debate camp on the East Coast. Before GMU, I was Director of Debate for Central Catholic & Perry High Schools. I’ve also worked specialty programs for Georgetown University, Dartmouth College & Case Western Reserve University.

With the birth of my second son, I realized I wanted to raise my children here with my family so I returned to Ohio. I’m a Central Catholic & St. Mary graduate. My family has a long tradition rooted in the Catholic faith; I was the third generation to attend CCHS, my mother’s family attended St. Barbara School, my father’s St. Joan of Arc. My family attended St. Joseph (Massillon) where my husband, Brian, and I married fifteen years ago.  The Director of Enrollment position allowed me to come home to the community that made me, me. I am excited at the opportunity to help our schools grow so that countless children, for countless generations, can love their Catholic School as I have!

Staff Reports

Director of Marketing & Enrollment Report by Kristie Cramer, Director of Marketing & Enrollment

Since taking this position in October many exciting things have been happening! Here are some highlights!

  • I’ve visited and gotten to know the Principals & members of the staff of all 10 schools. Those relationships have allowed me to observe the unique attributes of each school & design enrollment goals that work best for each.

  • We have joined the Chambers of many Stark County cities. These memberships afford us advertising through-out the community and the opportunity to attend countless network gatherings and public showcases which help with recruitment efforts.

  • We’ve attended numerous recruiting & community events such as SmART Splash, First Friday in Canton, Spring Fling in Alliance, Hoops for Health, Nimissila Park clean-up, and showcases in Louisville, Jackson, Canton & North Canton.

  • There has been a large website overhaul to make our websites more engaging and user friendly. Statistics show that we’ve more than doubled our users.

  • We’ve increased our social media engagement, including a Facebook campaign that reached 8000 people!

  • I hope you heard the radio spots on 94.1 delivered by two young ladies from our schools; they did a great job! Students will next have an opportunity to record radio spots for iHeart Radio 101.7

  • In the last 6 months Holy Cross Academy Schools has more than doubled positive press stories with local media which helps us tell the public how much our schools have to offer.

  • We’ve been working hard to form partnerships with local community organizations to help spread the word about our schools but also to provide our staff & families with more resources.

There are many other exciting ideas starting to take shape, events being planned and partnerships created. If you haven’t already, check out www.starkholycrossacademy.com, like our page on Facebook (Holy Cross Academy: Stark County) or follow us on Twitter at HolyCrossAcademy.
